Where do you get your news? At this point in time the corporations that own the media—the newspapers, the TV and radio stations—much prefer the agenda of the Republicans. Even PBS and NPR can no longer be "trusted" to be fair and balanced. They are run by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Bush has appointed most of the board of directors for the CPB and they are partisan politicians, not caretakers of the media.

What do liberals have?

Air America

if you don't have a station near you, stream it on your computer. Follow the links to "listen live."

Countdown with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC, Mon.-Fri. 8-9 pm Eastern, repeating at midnight Eastern. The best clips are usually posted on Crooks and Liars which you can view any time or even download onto your computer and/or video ipod.

And there is always the
Daily Show and Colbert Report on Comedy Central. Sadly, they give us more factual information than does the main stream news these days.

I know that reading books is the manna from heaven for liberals and progressives. Below you will find a few books that I recommend.

If you are really interested in finding out more about the books, the authors, or just engaging in conversation with others who are reading the same kind of material, hop over to

on Sunday afternoons at 5 (Eastern) for the Book Salon. Each book is discussed (usually)over the course of two Sundays and all of the discussions are archived going back to around mid-March. The author is usually present for the discussion for at least one of the two discussion threads.

In an exciting new development Jane Hamsher and Markos Moulitzas have formed Vaster Books to promote progressive writers. The first work due to arrive at a bookstore near you in the third week of January is:

anatomy_of_deceit_72color_2

Anatomy of Deceit, How the Bush Administration Used the Media to Sell the Iraq War and out a Spy by Marcy Wheeler aka Emptywheel from The Next Hurrah. For those how have been watching this case unfold, Marcy has watched every step and misstep of this case since day one. I can't wait to get my copy as Irving (Scooter) Libby goes to trial.

Some books that you might want to read about progressive activism:
